Video Tribute

David Bedenbaugh, loving father and grandfather, died at home at the age of 94 on December 31, 2020. David was born on October 28, 1926 in Prosperity, South Carolina. He graduated from O’Neal High School in Prosperity and served in World War 2 as a military police officer for the United States Army. David was a proud lifelong citizen of Prosperity and was a co-business owner with his brother Earle of Bedenbaugh Feed and Seed for 35 years and owner and manager of Bedenbaugh Investments and Bedenbaugh Rentals for 30 years. David was married to Linda Bedenbaugh for 52 years and raised 2 sons and 4 grandchildren. After his loving wife Linda passed away in 2009, David married Frances (Fran-Fran) Hamm. They were married for 8 years.

David had a passion for the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and playing poker. He hunted as a small boy up into his late eighties. He shared his love of hunting with friends and family and was an avid outdoor sportsman his entire life. In his later years, he could often be found in his battered pickup truck checking trout lines on the ponds on his properties or on Lake Murray. His truck was frequently the recipient of dings and dents because he believed in getting where he was going no matter what was in his way. One of David’s favorite sayings was, “There’s only 2 speeds in life, stop and hold on. ” He was known for a quick wit, love of meeting new people and a no-nonsense attitude and bearing.

David was preceded in death by his father, Boyd and mother, Eula Belle, his brother, Earle, and beloved wives, Linda and Frances. He is survived by his sons, Boyd and Michael, grandchildren, Carson, Jacob, Jonah and Maggie and nieces, Jan Blackwell, Lisa Sulka, Jean Bedenbaugh, and nephew, Charlie Bedenbaugh.

David will be laid to rest at Zion Church Cemetery in Prosperity on Monday, January 4th at 2:00 pm. Due to Covid restrictions, no visitation will be held and anyone who fears having been exposed to COVID 19 within the past ten days are discouraged from attending and those who do attend mask and social distancing protocols should be followed.. Memorial donations may be made to Zion United Methodist Church, care of Cemetery Fund at 80 Zion Circle, Prosperity, SC 29127

The service will be broadcast via Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/PTHP1

When my lake house burned down, we lost everything. David gave me a shot gun and told me he knows how much I love turkey hunting and didn't want me to miss out. He offered me his home to live in, kindness came natural for him. I thanked him with tears in my eyes. He will be missed.

I only knew Mr. Bedenbaugh when I rented an apartment from him for several years, but he was an energetic, warm-hearted man. I was glad to have him as my landlord. Prosperity won't be the same without him and I'm sorry for your loss.

Mike and Boyd, please kknow that as i write to give my sympathy a flood of memories come to mind, as I remember David, as well as Linda, Frances and Earle -good ones! When my father, Dove, was on his death bed at the hospital, he told Jewel and me that if we ever wanted to know any thing about how to do things in the community or Zion to ask David.

I loved David Bedenbaugh. He was definitely a man on the go - but always respectful and appreciative of the needs of others. He patiently waited many hours in our office but was a huge encourager to me personally and to the rest of our staff from its inception in 1988. I will long remember our experience when he took me turkey hunting. I thank God that he shared his adventuresome, loving, and fun life with me.

I have known David and Earle all my life, but when we opened the drug store and the small Coffee Club formed, that is when I really became close friends with David. Boyd and Mike, Becky and I extend our sincere sympathy to you and your families.

What an incredible life! Mr. David was one of the icons of life in Prosperity. He was a man of incredible energy, drive, and interest. Prosperity will be missing one to people that gave it that unique flair. Mr. David is not a Peace, no longer trapped inside the vessel that kept him from enjoying life to its fullest, which he always did. He is at a place where all is well, the grass is green, the deer are plentiful, there are card games rolling, and you cannot bend and dent up a truck. Thank you for the blessing of gracing us with your life, Mr. David.
