On the night of August 17th 1987, I was struck head on by a driver that went to sleep on highway 34 in Newberry SC. The accident left me severely injured and trapped without lights dead center of the Highway. Luckily, Mr Nichols was on patrol that night and was able to pull over the trucker who stopped within a few feet of the car I was trapped in. There is no doubt in my mind that if not for Mr. Nichols, that would have been the last day I ever saw at 19 yrs old. I'm sorry I never got the chance to thank him in person as I learned his identity later in life. He truly served his purpose and may God rest his soul.
Sincerely, Mr. Kirby Amick

It’s hard to lose someone as special as Thomas, a man who served the community with his duty to the badge and provided loving dedication to his family and friends. He meant so much to Daddy – and the rest of up – and I’ll never forget all the days that gray car spent in our front yard! Wishing your family comfort and strength and know we’re with you in spirit—now and in the days and weeks ahead. We’ll be praying for all of you.
