Walter E. "Jack" Ruff, Sr., 86, of Prosperity, died Thursday, January 14, 2009, at Jessie Frank Hawkins Nursing Home.
Born in Prosperity on October 1, 1923, he was a son of the late Loamma A. and Clara Lominick Ruff. He graduated from St. Philip’s School and attended Newberry College. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Ruff had been an employee of Greenwood Mills and Newberry Mills. He was a member of St. Philip’s Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth Livingston Ruff; children, Jackie R. (Gordon) Eargle, Walter E. “Bo” (Darlene) Ruff, Mary Dawn R. (Randy) Mills, and Henry Loamma “Tugg” (Nancy) Ruff all of Prosperity; a sister, Clara R. Gregory of West Columbia; grandchildren, Skipper (Charley) Livingston, Justin Ruff, Amy R. (Davis) Gallman, Ion Ruff, Jaclyn E. (Russel) Sease, Eric W. Eargle, Nicole R. Gibson, Laurie R. (Christopher) Connelly; great-grandchildren, Evan Ruff, Will Livingston, Katie Marie Gallman, Jon Henry Gibson. He was predeceased by siblings, John David Ruff, Lillian Younginer and Wilbur A. Ruff.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 16, 2010, at St. Philip’s Lutheran Church by the Rev. Terry Amick. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church. Memorials may be made to St. Philip’s Lutheran Church, 2461 St. Philip’s Church Road, Newberry, SC 29108.
