Edith Louvania Werts Szucs, 84, of Pomaria, widow of John Joseph Szucs, Jr., died Friday, January 29, 2010, at Springfield Place.

Born on May 15, 1925, in Pomaria, she was a daughter of the late Hubert and Louvania Berley Werts. She was a caregiver for many years, was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and a former President of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in New Jersey.

Surviving is a son, John Szucs III of Pomaria; daughters, Linda Szucs Carnival of Roebling, NJ and Maria Szucs Sadar of Florence, NJ; a brother, Hubert “Buddy” Werts of North Augusta; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, February 4, 2010, at McSwain-Evans Funeral Chapel by the Rev. J. Henri Bishop. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels c/o the Newberry County Council, 1300 Hunt Street, Newberry, SC 29108 or to Tri-County Hospice, 13795 C.R. Koon Highway, Newberry, SC 29108.

Sorry to hear about Ms. Edith. She and my father, Bonnie Berley, were 1st cousins. I remember Ms. Edith from St. John's as well as our annual Berley Reunion (along with Uncle Hubert & Aunt Tints). May you find comfort and peace through God, family and friends. My prayers are with you.

So sorry to learn of Miss Edith's death. I was fortunate to have cut her hair for several years prior to her declining health. I enjoyed her in my salon very much and you are all in my thoughts and prayers.
