Donald Richard Wicker, 73, of Prosperity, widower of Marjorie Bedenbaugh Wicker, died Monday, April 6, 2015, at The Heritage at Lowman.

Born on October 31, 1941, in Little Mountain, he was a son of the late Grady B. and Marjorie Shealy Wicker. He was a graduate of Newberry College, retired from the S.C. Department of Transportation and was a retired veteran serving in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Wicker was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church where he was a former Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, a member of the Lutheran Men, and served on numerous committees over the years. Mr. Wicker was a member of the Little Mountain Fire Department for over 30 years and served as chief. He was a chaplain's assistant at the Heritage at Lowman, a member and former president of the Little Mountain Ruritan Club, a former chairman of the Newberry County Transportation Commission and a former member of the Board of Rural Fire Control.

Mr. Wicker is survived by a son, Richard A. (Karen) Wicker of Prosperity; a daughter, Suzanne W. (Oscar) Long of Charlotte, NC; four grandchildren, Jared and Sarah Wicker and Taylor and Alyssa Long; a brother, Robert S. (Brenda) Wicker of Little Mountain; sisters-in-law, Gayle Wicker, Beverly (Johnny) Merck and Marilyn Dowd. He was predeceased by a daughter, Melanie Wicker and a brother, Wendell Wicker.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church by the Rev. Brett Collins and Rev. James W. Wicker, Jr. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the Trinity Life Center following the service. Richie, Karen, Suzanne and family, so sorry to hear about Mr. Donald's passing. Not only did I grow up knowing him, seeing him at Lindler Field softball games, but I also worked with him at DOT. We always had a good time catching up on mutual friends when we saw one another. Richie being in school with you he always kept me updated on you and your family too. My heart breaks for you all and your loss, but knowing he is in a better place eases it somewhat. You will be reunited in your Father's house one day.
