Anna Rae Thrift Smith, 92, of Newberry, widow of Billy Richard Smith, died October 6, 2026 at White Oak Manor.

Born on May 16, 1934 in Newberry, she was a daughter of the late Robert Claude and Johnnie Bledsoe Thrift. Mrs. Smith retired from the Newberry County School District. She was a life-long member of O'Neal Street United Methodist Church where she was a member of the May Hendrix Circle and sang in the church choir. She also attended Cross Point Church. Mrs Smith enjoyed baking cakes and visiting with friends and family.

She is survived by a daughter, Donna Long of Newberry ; a son, Bobby (Susanne) Smith of Lexington; grandchildren, Rick (Sherry) Long, Brent (Jenny) Long, and Amanda (Thomas) Powell; 6 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; and her faithful dog, Fritz.

She was predeceased by a sister, Dora Sue Livingston.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Thursday, October 8, 2026 at Cross Point Church, by the Rev. Jeff O'Dell. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour before the service in the church.
