Ms. Barbara E. Dawkins Brown, 80 died peacefully Friday evening July 29, 2022 at White Oak Manor of Newberry. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Ms. Brown was born November 13, 1941 in Whitmire, SC, a daughter of the late Marvin Dawkins and late Helen Graham Dawkins. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant UMC, Pomaria and attended Glenn Street Baptist in her later years. She was a graduate of Whitmire High School. In her earlier years, she worked in the textile industry, in Whitmire. Later, she found her calling as a CNA at J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home in Newberry. She found much joy providing compassionate care for all of her patients. She never met a stranger and enjoyed the company of others everywhere she went. She cherished time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.

Surviving are her son Michael Brown (Christy); two grandchildren Alana and Waylin Brown of Newberry; a step-sister Estelle Wicker, of Newberry; a brother-in-law James Brotherton, two special nieces Tina B. Scott (Bubba) and Christal Brotherton, all of Moncks Corner, SC. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a daughter, Harriet Ann Brown; a twin sister Betty Dawkins Brotherton; a stepmother Myrtle Dawkins; two stepbrothers O’Merle and Robert Earl Gilliam.

Graveside services will be conducted at 10:00 am Tuesday, August 2, 2022 in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, 2360 Mt. Pleasant Church Road, Pomaria, SC 29126 or to a charity of one's choice.
