Margaret Bertha Nichols, 92, of Newberry, died Sunday, May 31, 2009 at White Oak Manor.

Born on November 6, 1916 in Newberry, she was a daughter of the late Andrew Mark and Pearl Schumpert Nichols. Miss Nichols received her A.B. Degree from Winthrop College in 1938. She was an educator in Aiken County in the Graniteville School System at Vaulcuse for 42 years having taught in the same classroom her entire career. For thirteen years she was principal. She was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church.

Surviving are a sister-in-law, Ruby Nichols; a nephew, Wayne (Delores) Nichols; a niece, Dianne Hall; great-nephews, Tim Nichols and Jason Hall; great-nieces, Christy (Stacy) Ochiltree and Lori Hall; special great-great nieces that she loved dearly, Makayla Nichols and Makenzie Nichols; special friends, Frankie Perry and Mary Alice Sims. She was predeceased by brothers, J.C. Nichols and Carl Nichols.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church by the Rev. Ronald Smith. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church Parking Lot Fund, 4056 St. Luke’s Church Road, Prosperity, SC 29127.
