Betsy Werts Chapman

Betsy Werts Chapman, 74, of Newberry, died Friday, December 23, 2022, at her residence.

Born on January 23, 1948, in Newberry she is a daughter of the late William Thomas and Annie Floyd Werts.  Mrs. Chapman was a graduate of the Greenville General Hospital School of Nursing.  She retired after 31 years as a registered nurse from Whitten Center in Clinton, and she also worked as the Adult Day Care Director at the Newberry County Council on Aging for eleven years.  She was a member of Bush River Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and was a nursery worker.

Mrs. Chapman loved her family, especially her grandchildren.  She enjoyed shooting doves and was known for her homemade pound cakes.

Mrs. Chapman is survived by her husband of 53 years, Rickey Chapman; a daughter, Jeannie (Traci) Chapman of Spartanburg; a son, William (Renee) Chapman of Newberry; sisters, Tommie Ann Danielsen of Newberry and Rachel (Ron) Gilmore of Summerville and grandchildren, Hannah Chapman, Ali Chapman, and Jesse Routon.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, December 26, 2022,  at Bush River Baptist Church by the Rev. Wayne Parker. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service.  Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38101-9924.

Active pallbearers will be T. J. Senn, Wesley Bouknight, Steve Satterwhite, Josh Chapman, Seth Chapman and Caleb Gilmore.

Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Mature Adult Sunday School Class.
