Burr Harris

Burr Calvert Harris, 73, of Pomaria, died Monday, January 26, 2009 at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.

Born on July 14, 1935 in Pomaria, he was a son of the late William David Harris, Sr. and Mae Ruff Harris. He was retired from Rea Construction and was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Men’s Club.

Surviving are his wife, Alma “Ann” Steading Harris; daughters, Donna (Melvin) Smith of Pomaria and Vicky (Terry) Melvin of Winnsboro; a step-son, Michael (Susan) McIntyre of Lexington; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Harris was predeceased by brothers, William David Harris, Jr. and Monroe Jackson Harris, Sr.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church by the Rev. Marian Dyer. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church Bus Fund, 2442 Mt. Pleasant Road, Pomaria, SC 29126.
