We are sorry to announce the passing of Carl Thomas Antonson, age 58 on Thursday, October 1, 2026 due to an unexpected heart condition.

Carl Tom was the middle child of three, born to the late Carl Richard Antonson (9/2/26) and his surviving wife, Judy. Tom was born October 12, 1967, two years to the day after his older sister, Lorie.

Tom graduated from Unionville High School, PA and earned a bachelor’s degree in communication studies from Gannon University in Erie PA. He worked in the early video game industry for e-Games, and later in environmental testing for Geoprobe. While employed there, he met Karen Hartline, who became his life-long best friend. In 2000 he moved to South Carolina where he remained until his death. He adapted quickly to the Southern lifestyle and remained close to his family and friends until his sudden passing.

Tom had a strong work ethic. He was reliable and took his work seriously. He was well liked by his co-workers at Samsung. Tom’s strong will and determination resulted in being clean and sober for more than 30 years.

An avid reader, Tom read all kinds of books and literature. He was fascinated by music and movies. He was an early fan of Frank Zappa. Some of his favorite films, which he would endlessly quote with his brother, Brian, included: Jaws, Caddy Shack, 2001 and Animal House, to name a few. In the first half of his life, Tom was a skier, a tennis player, he canoed on the family trip, played golf and guitar. In the middle of his life Tom became certified to scuba dive so he could dive with his nieces and nephews (Maggie, Kyle, Autumn and Jonah) on their family dive trips throughout the Caribbean.

Philadelphia sports was a source of great joy (and frustration!) for Tommy. He was a diehard Eagles, Phillys and Flyers fan. He was as knowledgeable about sports, as he was about movies and music and trivia in general. He had a sharp and hilarious sense of humor. He was sarcastic and always self-effacing. He made people laugh.

He will be greatly missed by his family, including his mother, Judy; his sister Lorie (Don), brother Brian (Mary) and nieces and nephews (Maggie, Kyle, Autumn and Jonah).
