Mamie Carolyn Kinard Garrett, 91, of Joanna, passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at the Hospice House of Laurens.
Born on November 22, 1934, in Newberry County, she was a daughter of the late Clark O. Kinard, Sr. and Mary Long Kinard. Ms. Garrett worked many years with Greenwood Mills in Joanna and later at National Health Care of Laurens and the Laurens County District 56 School District. She was a longtime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Clinton.
Ms. Garrett found great pleasure in quilting. Over the years she was involved with numerous quilting guilds which included Project Linus that provided quilts for children, the Busy Bess Quilt Guild of Fountain Inn, Loose Thread Quilt Guild and Logan Lap Quilters which provided quilts for the Laurens County Memorial Home.
She is survived by a son, Keith Bryan Garrett of Joanna; a niece, Carleen (Russ) Thompson; nephews, David Kinard, Clark Kinard, Tim Smith, Roger Smith and Mike Garrett.
Ms. Garrett was predeceased by brothers, Owens Kinard and Carl Kinard.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Clinton by the Rev. Dr. John “Jan” Setzler. Burial will follow in Bethlehem Lutheran Church Cemetery in Pomaria.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until the hour of service on Tuesday at St. John’s Lutheran Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church, 1009 South Broad Street, Clinton, SC 29325 or to VIA Health Partners (Hospice of Laurens), 1304 Springdale Drive, Clinton, SC 29325.
Active pallbearers will be David Kinard, Clark Kinard, Tim Smith, Roger Smith, Mike Garrett, Grant Kinard and Blake Kinard.
