Charles Dawson Tyler, age 75, husband of Mildred Clare Suber Tyler, passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2026 at his home on Lake Murray.

He was born in Columbia, South Carolina on May 12, 1951 and was the son of the late Dawson Tyler and Bobbie Rose Tyler. He graduated from Columbia High School in 1971. He obtained a degree in electrical engineering from Midlands Technical College in 1977.

“Charlie” retired from V. C. Summer Nuclear Power Station following 35 years of service as a Quality Control and Quality Assurance Auditor. He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church, Prosperity, South Carolina having served as a Trustee. He also served on the Board of Ordained Ministry for the South Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church from 2012-2016.

Having served in the United States Navy for four years from 1971-1975, he was stationed aboard the USS Springfield and the USS Vulcan. He was a former member of the American Legion Post No. 24 in Newberry and a member of the American Legion Post No. 70 in Whitmire. He was a former member of the Newberry Chapter of the Forty and Eight.

Charlie was a Master Gardener.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Berley Tyler and sister-in-law Julie Tyler, Wayne Kessler (Marion), Hugh Tyler (Carol), and Richard Tyler. He is survived by a brother Brian Tyler. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. at Zion United Methodist Church, 80 Zion Circle, Prosperity, SC, 29127 with the Reverend Joseph James officiating. Visitation will follow in the Family Life Center. Burial will be in the Whitmire Cemetery at 3:00 P.M. with military honors.

Active pallbearers are James Cochran Suber; Robert Gay Emanuel Suber; John Carlos Cochran Suber, Sr.; John Carlos Suber, Jr.; James Russell Satterfield; Robert Lee Deal; Clifford Alexander Hickson; and Milledge Lee Wilson, Sr.

Memorials may be made to the Zion United Methodist Church Food Pantry, 80 Zion Circle, Prosperity, S.C. 29127 or to the Haley Clare Hughes Memorial Scholarship Fund, Presbyterian College, 503 Broad St., Clinton, S.C. 29325.

The family is grateful for the many kindnesses, prayers, love, and support during these past six months of Charlie’s illness and during this time of bereavement.
