Clara Sue "Mama Sue" Waites

Clara Sue “Mama Sue” Snelgrove Waites, 83, of Pomaria, widow of Kenneth B. Waites, died Sunday, August 6, 2023, at Prisma Health Richland surrounded by her family and friends.

Born on September 8, 1939, in Newberry County, she was a daughter of the late Carl C. Snelgrove, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Sligh Snelgrove.  She was a homemaker and had kept children in her home for many years.  Mrs. Waites was a member of Enoree Baptist Church where she had served as a Nursery Sunday School Teacher.  

She is survived by her sons, K. Randall Waites and his fiancée, Betty Richardson and Keith Waites both of the home; a daughter-in-law, Victoria Boozer Waites of Spartanburg; a granddaughter, Dr. Jessica Waites Wilkes and husband, Eric; grandson, Austin Brady Waites and fiancée, Tori Sorrels; great-grandchildren, Dawson Noel Waites and Clara Katherine Waites; a brother, Carl C. Snelgrove of Chapin; a sister, Margaret Snelgrove Williams and husband, Jim of Chapin; her last living aunt, Connie Snelgrove Burkett of Batesburg and special family, Brandi Clark Sease, Addison Sease, Avery Sease, Julie and John Dennis, Tommy and Audrey Sease and her K-9 companion, Katie and a number of nephews and nieces.

Mrs. Waites was predeceased by a son, Grady Carson Waites and a special family friend, Frankie Edward Sease and sister-in-law, Judy Amick Snelgrove.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at Enoree Baptist Church by the Rev. George Leagans.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6:00 – 7:00 pm at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home.  Memorials may be made to Enoree Baptist Church, c/o Kathie Leitzsey, 5101 Jollystreet Road, Newberry, SC 29108.

Active pallbearers will be Dean Long, Chad Leitzsey, Todd Waites, Doyle Waites, Mike Snelgrove and Shane Livingston.
