Jesse Claude Amick, 85, of Prosperity, widower of Nell Cannon Amick, died Saturday, May 1, 2010, at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.

Born on October 26, 1924, in Prosperity, he was a son of the late Arthur and Cora Hamm Amick. He was a retired carpenter and farmer and was a former member of the S.C. National Guard. He was a member of Macedonia Lutheran Church where he was a former Church Councilman and treasurer of the Building Fund. Mr. Amick was a member since 1951 of the Prosperity Fire Department of which he had served as Chief and Assistant Chief. He helped start the Prosperity Rescue Squad of which he was a member for six years. He loved to cook for his friends such as the Macedonia Goldies and other groups. He also enjoyed working in his hobby shop and doing things for his friends.

Surviving are his daughters, Beth A. (Butch) Mowder of Charleston and Gena A. (Lee) Driggers of Prosperity; grandchildren, Logan Driggers and Jessie Driggers. Mr. Amick was predeceased by a son, Jerry Claude Amick and brothers, Leo Amick, Grady Amick and Floyd Amick.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 3, 2010, at Macedonia Lutheran Church by the Rev. Randy Derrick. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Driggers, 201 Long Street, Prosperity. Memorials may be made to Macedonia Lutheran Church, 49 Macedonia Church Road, Prosperity, SC 29127 or to the Prosperity Fire Department, PO Box 361, Prosperity, SC 29127.

Active pallbearers: Jimmy Moore, Paul Moore, Tony Rawls, Richard Amick, Andy Ackerman and Dean Wise.

Honorary pallbearers: Members of the Prosperity Fire Department, Macedonia Goldies, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Dowd, Mr. and Mrs. Mark Livingston, Dr. Elmer Long and Dr. Gene Epting.

The family would like to thank Dr. Alan Paysinger, Dr. John Brown and the entire staff of Newberry Hospital for their loving care given to their loved one.
