Dan Eugene Hembree, 79, of Newberry, died Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.

Born on May 21, 1930 in Columbia, he was a son of the late Clyde E. and Mary Rochester Hembree. Mr. Hembree was a retired employee of Newberry County. He was a Deacon of Glenn Street Baptist Church where he was a member of the Fisher’s of Men Sunday School class. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, and a member of the American Legion and Voiture 1342 40 & 8.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Frances McCartha Hembree; daughters, Judy Hembree (Charles) Holwell of Quitman, GA and Gail Hembree (Richard) Moose of Greer, SC; a brother, Doyle R. Hembree of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren, Adria Holwell (Andrew) Wilkes of Savannah, GA, William Bryan (Tracy) Holwell of Sugar Hill, GA, Christa Holwell (Scott) Payne of Arcadia, OK, Melissa Moose (James) Whittingham of Cheverly, MD, Alicia Hembree Moose of Seneca, SC, Brandon McCartha Moose of Greenville, SC, and Kaitlin Crabtree Moose of Greer, SC and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by brothers and sisters-in-law, Clyde and Mary Ann Hembree and Wylie and Betty Hembree.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 18, 2009 at Glenn Street Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Michael Whitesides. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. The family will receive visitors Thursday from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Glenn Street Baptist Church, 300 Glenn Street, Newberry, SC 29108.
