Marion Daniel Maw, 89, of Newberry passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home.

Born on July 1, 1936, in Newberry, Dan was the son of the late Harleston Samuel and Mary Lyda McGaha Maw. He married the love of his life, Evelyn B. Maw, on December 2, 1962, at Beth Eden Lutheran Church.

Dan opened the doors to Maw’s Store in 1961. For the next 50 years, he didn’t just operate a business; he built a landmark, retiring in 2011 with a legacy of service and friendship. When he wasn’t behind the counter, Dan was likely found fishing in the Saluda River or building in his shop. He was a passionate stock car racing enthusiast who traveled from local dirt tracks to the grandstands of Darlington, always pulling for his favorite drivers. He was a loving husband, father, papa, brother, and friend who will be missed by many, especially his children and grandchildren.

Dan is survived by a daughter, Danielle (Steve) Quattlebaum of Newberry; a son, Marion Daniel (Monique) Maw of Newberry; a brother, Sam Maw of Spartanburg; two grandchildren, Ashleigh Conaway, and Johnathan Quattlebaum; and three great-grandchildren, Dylan, Landon, and Winter. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 62 years, Evelyn B. Maw; and his brothers Adger, Alvin, Ansel, Edward, Grady, John, Lewis and Wayne Maw, and sisters Mary Elizabeth Maw and Dorothy Steele.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM, Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Rodney Gunter. Burial will follow at Newberry Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour before the funeral service, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel.
