David C. Mims, MGYSGT, United States Marine Corps, retired after serving thirty years. He passed away on July 12, 2026 in Asheville, NC.

Born in Newberry, SC. in December of 1951, he was the son of the late Carl and Mary Ellen Spratt Mims. 

He graduated from Crawford High School in San Diego, CA  in 1969 and joined the Marine Corps in March of 1971. David was stationed at many different bases throughout his career. After retirement, David served in logistics for Bowhead Corporation and L3 Harris. He went on to civil service in support of the Australian Navy H-60 Helicopter program. David loved the outdoors. He enjoyed surfing and was an avid fisherman.

He is survived by his wife, Vickie Griffith Mims, whom he married in 1973; sons, John Carl Mims and Michael Allen Mims; daughter-in-law Dr. Pamala J. Mims and 5 grandchildren, John David, Riley, Christian, Grey, and Matthew.

Graveside services with full military honors will be conducted at 3:00PM, Friday, July 17, 2026 in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
