Debra Lynn Derrick Monts, 70, of Newberry, died Thursday, July 9, 2026, at the Heritage at Lowman Rehabilitation and Healthcare.

Born on June 1, 1956, in Prosperity, she was a daughter of the late Noah Sidney and Ruth Alberta Hunnicutt Derrick. Debra attended Cross Point Church. She had worked at Ellett Brothers for 28 years and then was a teaching assistant at Newberry High School.

She is survived by her husband, Jimmy Edward Monts; sons, Jamie (Allison Barber) Monts of Columbia and Robbie (Alaina) Monts of Atlanta, GA; sisters, Cathy (Frankie) Shealy of Pomaria and Rose (Chuck) Meadows of Newberry and grandchildren, Desiree Monts, Dalton Monts, Zoe Monts and Kayden Monts. Debra had a number of nieces and nephews, cousins and dear friends that she loved.

Funeral services will be held Monday, July 13, 2006 at 10:00 am at Cross Point Church by the Rev. Jeff O'Dell. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at Cross Point Church Monday from 9:00 am – 10:00 am.

Memorials may be made to the Kidney Foundation.

Active pallbearers will be Carter McClain, Dan Culbertson, Chuck Meadows, Frankie Shealy, Justin Ware and Jeff O’Dell.

Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
