William Dennis Hester, 76, of Prosperity, died Thursday, September 17, 2026 at Prisma Health Richland.

Born on March 16, 1950, in Shelby, NC, he was a son of the late Charlie and Esther Howell Hester. Dennis was a U.S. Army veteran and was retired from computer sales. He was a member of Cross Point Church and the Sons of Confederate Veterans.

As the head of the family he was a devoted and wonderful husband, father and papa. He was a committed Christian with a big heart. Dennis was the leader for his family as well as in life. He was coach, friend and our hero. He had a gregarious personality.

He is survived by his wife, Tammy Brooks Hester; a son, William Dennis Hester II and his wife, KayLa Krantz Hester of South Congaree; a daughter, Charlene Smith and her husband, Kevin Smith of Newberry; a brother, Tim Hester and his wife, Abigail Hester of Shelby, NC; grandchildren, Kody Hester, Korbyn Hester, Eric Smith, Scarlett Smith, Savannah Smith, Nathan Smith and Kelsie Gutierrez and her husband, Mikey Gutierrez and a great-granddaughter, Natalia Gutierrez.

Dennis was predeceased by a sister, Becky Goblish and a granddaughter, Faith Hester.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, September 25, 2026, at 2:30 pm at his home, 149 Pinedale Court, Prosperity. Rev. Jeff O’Dell will officiate.
