Donnie Ray Carnes, 70, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 5, 2026.

He was born on January 3, 1956 in Anderson, SC. Donnie was preceded in death by his mother, Gloria Dominick, and his brother, Randy (Jean) Carnes.

He was a man of few words who enjoyed a simple life and appreciated the simple pleasures a quiet life offered: sitting outside watching nature especially on a cool day, bird watching, relaxing and watching television, reading his Bible, and visits with family. He suffered from increasing mobility limitation due to aging, breathing difficulties from a life of smoking cigarettes, and a motorcycle accident in the 1980’s that damaged both of his legs, resulting in an above the knee amputation of one leg and metal pins in the other leg. He enjoyed playing cards (Pitty Pat and War notably), dominoes, playing the harmonica, fishing, hunting, camping, building campfires, canoeing in the pond, and yard sales with his mother, Nanny. He took pride in being able to cut the grass on a riding lawnmower, and he continued to use a riding lawnmower in his daily life to assist him to visit neighborhood family members due to his difficulty walking distances.

He thoroughly loved yard sales, which involved collecting a lot of stuff over the years, often duplicates and triplets of items, including tools and fishing rods especially. If you needed something, he probably had one or 2 (maybe 3) of it; it was just a matter if he could find it. He collected more than he needed simply because it was a good deal at a yard sale, and said many times you never know when someone will need this. He was ready to give an item to someone if they needed it.

He is survived by his father, Earl Dominick, and his brother, Duke (Sherry) Dominick. He is survived by his children: Shawn (Linsay) Carnes, Jennifer (James) Craig, and Brandan (Anne) Carnes. Surviving grandchildren are Laney Carnes, Jameson Craig, Greyson Craig, Blakeley Carnes, and Teagan Carnes. Donnie is also survived by many extended family members.

In respect of Donnie’s preference, no funeral services will take place.
