Doris Dowd Wicker, 98, of Pomaria, widow of John Alan Wicker, Jr., passed away on Friday, March 15, 2024, at her residence.
Born on June 11, 1925, in Columbia, she was a daughter of the late Wilbur and Eva Shealy Dowd. Mrs. Wicker was retired from General Electric/MEPCO. She was a member of St. Philip’s Lutheran Church where she was involved with the Joy Fellowship and had formerly been a Sunday School teacher.
Mrs. Wicker is survived by daughters, Johnsie (Kenny) Long of Little Mountain and Cathy (Robbie) Franklin of Pomaria; a sister, Mollie Graham of Newberry; five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a sister, Margaret Richardson Fulmer, a brother, Ellis Dowd and a granddaughter and a great-grandson.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Monday, March 18, 2024, at St. Philip’s Lutheran Church by the Rev. Terry Amick. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will Sunday from 3:00 – 4:30 pm at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Philip’s Lutheran Church, 2461 St. Philip's Church Road, Newberry, SC 29108 or to the Pomaria Rescue Squad, PO Box 192, Pomaria, SC 29126.
Active pallbearers will be Adam Chapin, James Point, Zach Long, Nathan Hipp, Jackson Burgess and Manning Burgess.
The family would like to thank Dee Alston, Ebbie King, Tess Mendenhall and MSA Hospice for their loving care.
