Dorothy Jackson

Dorothy Melverda Morris Jackson, 85, of Newberry, widow of Porter Caldwell Jackson, died Sunday, January 31, 2010, at her residence.

Born on August 31, 1924, in Prosperity, she was a daughter of the late James Rhett Morris and Erin Nichols Morris Kunkle. She was a member of Glenn Street Baptist Church where she was a member and former teacher of the TEL Sunday School Class. Mrs. Jackson in her early years worked for Mollohon Mills in Newberry and retired from Monsanto in Greenwood. Following retirement she worked at B.C. Moore’s Department Store.

Surviving is a son, Tony Caldwell (Linda) Jackson of Tierra Verde, FL; daughter, Lynn Jackson of Newberry; a sister, Barbara Morris Werts of North Augusta; a number of nieces and nephews which included special nieces, Tracy Weldon and Judy Patrick and special nephews, Buddy Rhett Werts and Gordon Jackson; a brother-in-law, Melvin Jackson of Newberry and a sister-in-law, Mozelle Jackson of Simpsonville.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 2, 2010, at Glenn Street Baptist Church by the Rev. Michael Whitesides. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Glenn Street Baptist Church, 300 Glenn Street, Newberry, SC 29108.
