Douglas Winslow Williams, 62, of Newberry, widower of Kay Luker Williams, died Friday, October 2, 2009 at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.

Born on October 23, 1946 in Spartanburg, he was a son of Ophelia Lanford Williams and the late Leonard Williams. He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War and was retired from the S.C. Highway Patrol as a Captain after 32 years of service. Mr. Williams was a member of Glenn Street Baptist Church where he was a member of the adult choir, a deacon and the senior activities coordinator. He was a member of the Newberry County Law Enforcement Association.

Surviving in addition to his mother, Ophelia Williams of Cross Anchor is a son, Gregory Winslow (Molly) Williams of Lexington; a daughter, Tonya (Stevie) Sligh of Newberry; sisters, Jackie Beltram and Mary Lynn Yarnall both of Spartanburg; grandchildren, Stevie Sligh III, Dylan Sligh, Chelsea Williams, Ryan Williams and Reese Williams and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at Glenn Street Baptist Church by the Rev. Michael Whitesides. Burial with honors by the S.C. Highway Patrol Honor Guard will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Monday from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Glenn Street Baptist Church, 300 Glenn Street, Newberry, SC 29108.

Honorary pallbearers: John Campbell, Milton Shealy, James Massey, Jessie Oates, Bo Chrisley, members of the Glenn Street Baptist Church Adult Choir and all active and retired law enforcement officers
