Earl Johnson

Lyman Earl Johnson, 81, of Newberry, died Thursday, August 4, 2022, at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital.

Born on September 1, 1940, in Supply, NC, he was a son of the late Jesse Lee and Mary Ruth Jordan Johnson. He served 91/2 years in the US Navy and was retired as an area boiling technician at Georgia Pacific. Mr. Johnson was Mason and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.  He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years Joye Long Johnson; sons, Keith E. (Wanda) Johnson of Newberry and Stanley T. (Margie) Johnson of Winnsboro; grandchildren, Erin Leigh Johnson of Chester, Stanley T. Johnson II of Winnsboro and Johnny H. Wicker of Gilbert and a sister, Leslie Roach of North Carolina.

Mr. Johnson was predeceased by two brothers and a sister, Jimmy Lee Johnson, Bennie Johnson and Faye Galloway.

Visitation will be 1:30 – 2:30 pm Sunday, August 7, 2022 at Bethany Lutheran Church followed by a funeral service at 3:00 pm to be conducted by the Rev. Dr. Robert McCollum. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethany Lutheran Church, 2704 Nance Street, Newberry, SC 29108.
