Eleanor Sweezy

Eleanor Lanning Sweezy, 85 of Prosperity, widow of Marshall Jackson “Jack” Sweezy died Thursday, May 16, 2024 at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.

Born on November 18, 1938 in Salem, SC, she was a daughter of the late Erby Cornelius and Bertha Manley Lanning. She retired from McClam and Associates and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Mrs. Sweezy loved gardening, and took great pride in her flowers. She was a wonderful cook and baker, and was famously known for her pound cakes. She loved her family dearly and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by daughters, Cindy (Bennie) Dicks of Aiken and Beverly (Jimmy) Martin of Prosperity; a son, Jennings (Belinda) Parker of Little Mountain; grandchildren, Jamie (Jeanna) Martin of Prosperity, Heather (Michael) Livingston of Prosperity, Amy (Chad) Hankinson of Aiken, Bennie Dicks II, of Aiken, Kasey Cushman of Aiken, Helen (Justin) Howe of Newberry, Joshua (Ashlye) Parker of Prosperity, and Zachary (Morgan) Parker of Pomaria;  great-grandchildren, Nikki, Abbi, Jace, Chad, Hunter, Jada, Jasper, Emmett, Sawyer, Carter, Isabella, and Chloe. Mrs. Sweezy was predeceased by siblings, Juanita Smith, Haskell Lanning, Joe Lanning, and Kathryn Holland; and a great- grandson, Noah Howe.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, May 20, 2024 at Bethel Baptist Church by her brother-in-law, Rev. Dr. Charles Holland. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside.
