Elizabeth Hawkins Shannon, 99, of Newberry, widow of William Henry Shannon, Jr., died Sunday, January 31, 2021 at J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home.

Born on October 2, 1921 in the Hartford Community of Newberry County, she was a daughter of the late Blumer P. and Mary Elizabeth Sligh Hawkins. Mrs. Shannon was a member of Central United Methodist Church where she was a past member of the Ezell Bible Class.

She is survived by a son, William Henry Shannon, III of Newberry; a special niece, Rosemary Dominick of Columbia; and special great-nieces, Patty Bobb of Camden and Melba Bowers of Prosperity. She was predeceased by a son, George Hawkins Shannon; brothers, George Hawkins, Jack Hawkins, Dudley Hawkins, Carl Hawkins, and Willie Hawkins; and sisters, Margaret Boozer, Lillie Waters, Sarah Wessinger, Mary Sease, and Ruth Lominack.

Graveside services will be conducted at 3:00 PM, Tuesday, February 2, 2021 in Rosemont Cemetery by the Rev. Joe Long and the Rev. Jim Williams. The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside. Due to Covid-19 concerns, there will be no receiving of friends at the home. Friends and family are invited to come by the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home to pay their respects and sign the guest register.

The family would like to thank her Stephen Minister, Jackie Mount, the staff of J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home , and M.S.A. Hospice for their love and care.
