Ellis Dowd

Donald Ellis Dowd, 84, of Prosperity, passed away on Monday, October 16, 2023, at Lexington Medical Center.

Born on September 29, 1939, in Little Mountain, he was the son of the late Wilbur Elton and Eva Shealy Dowd.  He was a Navy veteran and retired after 38 years from the Newberry Electric Cooperative as a lineman.  Mr. Dowd was a member of Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church and was a former member of the Little Mountain Ruritan.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Chapman Dowd; a son, Donald (Tanya) Dowd of Hollywood; daughters, Jenny Dowd of Prosperity and Leann (Curt) London of Chapin; sisters, Doris Wicker of Pomaria and Mollie Graham of Newberry; grandchildren, Lauren (Chris) Votruba; Kaitlyn (Charlie) Garrison, Brandon (Kelli) Dowd, Justin Dowd, Madison London and Erika London; great-grandchildren, Harper Votruba and Cooper Votruba. 

He was predeceased by a sister, Margaret Richardson Fulmer.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, October 19, 2023, at Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church by the Rev. Rich Johnston.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Little Mountain Rescue Squad, PO Box 8, Little Mountain, SC 29075.

Active pallbearers will be Brandon Dowd, Justin Dowd, Scottie Koon, Chris Votruba, Curt London, Allen Williams, Charlie Garrison, and Robert Harmon.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Carroll Pinner, Peggy & Voight Counts, Annette & Jerry Shealy, Johnsie & Kenny Long, and Reverend Michael Harp.
