Mary “Elvie” Shealy Long Kinard, of Pomaria, widow of John Jacob Long and Beamon Perry Kinard, passed away on August 10, 2026, at White Oak Manor, surrounded by her family.

Born May 19, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Clarence E. and Lucille Shealy.

Elvie was a devoted and active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, a place she loved dearly. Her church family held a special place in her heart, and she remained active in the church for as long as she was able. Her faith was an important part of her life and was reflected in the love, kindness, and generosity she shared with others.

Elvie retired from Oakland Mills after more than 30 years of dedicated service. During those years, she developed a talent for sewing and took great pride in making clothes for her family. She especially loved creating things for the people she loved, and her handmade treasures became cherished reminders of her love and care. After retirement she enjoyed traveling with her friends to different places along with her other hobbies.

Outside of work and church, Elvie found great joy in her flowers and garden. She loved tending to her plants and sharing the beauty and bounty of her garden with family and friends. She was generous with what she grew and never hesitated to share with those around her. Her kindness and willingness to give to others were a reflection of the loving person she was.

Elvie is survived by her daughters Marilyn (Larry) Seybt and Helen (Steve) Wicker; son, Roy Long; and her stepson, Bobby (Donna) Kinard. She is also survived by four sisters, Grace Shealy, Clarice Evans, Celia Shealy, and Eunice Shealy.

She was preceded in death by her daughter and son-in-law, Cathy (Barry) Dowd.

Elvie leaves behind a loving family and many cherished memories through her grandchildren: Bryan (Debbie) McGlohorn, Jonathan (Delphine) McGlohorn, Will (Brooke) Seybt, Stephanie (Mark) Osada, Daniel (Amy) Wicker, Amy (Chris) Milstead, Nathan (Lindsay) Wicker, Jennifer (Trey) Burrows, Kayla (Cameron) McClive, Shannon (Jason) Smith, Alex (Jada) Dowd, Lisa (Warren) Epting, Jeannine Tesenair (Jimmy Bush), and Devon Kinard.

She is also survived by 28 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, and many beloved nieces and nephews, all of whom brought joy and love into her life.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to all of Elvie’s caregivers who lovingly cared for her throughout the years. Special thanks are extended to the staff of White Oak Manor, the Bernardo Hospice Care Team, Dr. Carroll Pinner, Scott Sawyer, and the many caregivers who cared for and supported her before she entered the nursing home. Their compassion, kindness, and dedication brought comfort to Elvie and peace to her family, and they will always be remembered with sincere appreciation.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 13, 2026 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Following the funeral service, the family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall.

Active pallbearers are Bryan McGlohorn, Jonathan McGlohorn, Will Seybt, Alex Dowd, Daniel Wicker, and Nathan Wicker. 

Honorary pallbearers will be the many caregivers that cared for Elvie over the last few years.
