Gayle Setzler Roton, 75, of Newberry, widow of Donald Harvey Roton, passed away on Friday, January 30, 2026, at her home.
Born on December 10, 1950, in Newberry, she was a daughter of the late John David Setzler and Daisy Ruff Setzler. Gayle retired from the South Carolina State Employees Association and was a faithful member of St. Philip’s Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna (Barry) Chambers; her son, Scott (Gena) Roton; her sister, Jill Setzler Mayer; and her grandchildren, Ashton Mason, Gabriele Mason, Drake Roton, Zachary Chambers, and Brooke (David) Bianchi. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Loretta Oropeza and Kathy Summer; nieces and nephews, Linda Lester, Johnny Mayer, Lisa Edwards, Jennifer Long, and Jeramy Oropeza; and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews.
Gayle loved her children and grandchildren deeply. She enjoyed spending time gardening and was an avid fan of Carolina Gamecock women’s basketball and football, as well as Duke men’s basketball. She loved traveling with her family, especially to the mountains and the beach. Gayle was truly one of a kind and will be dearly missed. She was a friend to many and loved by all.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 6, 2026 at 2:00 pm at St. Philip’s Lutheran Church, officiated by the Rev. Terry Amick. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Katrina, Amy, and Michelle at the Newberry Infusion Center for the kindness and care they provided over the last five years. The family also expresses their gratitude to Lighthouse Hospice for their compassion and care during the last few weeks.
