George Edward Keysor

George Edward Keysor, 83, of Newberry, SC, passed away at his home on August 15, 2023.  George was born in Saranac, NY, on August 1, 1940, to the late Clarence Keysor and Julia (Bowen) Keysor.

Growing up on a farm, George learned the value of hard work and embodied this throughout his life.  He graduated from Saranac Central High School in 1958 and by 1963, was working for Pizzagalli Construction Company as an Equipment Operator.  George left his hard hat on the shelf 39 years later, then a Superintendent, having stamped his mark on jobsites across the country and in the U.S. Virgin Islands, where he was also the Company’s pilot.

Flying small airplanes became one of George’s hobbies, as did golfing, but hunting and fishing remained favorite activities throughout his life.  George also had a great passion for working with his hands and embraced opportunities for creative problem-solving when building or fixing things.  He found joy, too, in simple tinkering, even with things that weren’t broken, and was often a valued handyman to friends and neighbors.

George was an avid philanthropist, but his generosity spread far beyond his charitable donations.  He valued and enjoyed helping family, friends, neighbors, and his community. He will forever be remembered as a man of faith and for his kind and generous heart, unmatched work ethic, selflessness, and dependability.  George will be loved and sorely missed by all who were blessed to know him.

George is survived by his wife of 22 years, Nadine (Koon) Keysor, his children, Mark Keysor of San Antonio, TX, and Cynthia Keysor of New Market, MD;  stepchildren Rocky Coutsos, Mike Coutsos, and Tammy (Coutsos) Coggins (Bobby);  granddaughter Jessica Bast, and stepgrandchildren Gus George Coutsos III (Ana), John Michael Coutsos, Makenzie Coutsos-Derrick (Ted), and Koty Coutsos; siblings Margaret (Keysor) Leclair, Florence (Keysor) Wright, Francis Keysor (Bonnie), and Harold Keysor (Sandy); and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, three children, Candace Keysor, Michael Keysor, and Richard Keysor, and siblings Jared Keysor (Betty), Catherine (Keysor) Durocher, Barbara Keysor, and John Keysor.

A service will be held on Sunday, August 20, 2023, at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home at 2:00 pm.  The family will receive friends following the service.
