George Mattox

George Herman Mattox, 80, of Winnsboro, died June 9, 2019 at his residence.

Born on March 30, 1939 in Winnsboro, he was a son of the late Odell and Martha Pate Mattox. He retired from Westvaco and was a member of Crooked Run Baptist Church. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.

Mr. Mattox is survived by his wife, Irene Turkett Mattox; daughters, Laura Mattox Collins, Elizabeth Mattox Mann, and Susan Mattox Douglas; a son, George Herman Mattox, Jr. Sisters, Margie Mattox Wilson, Jolene Mattox Taylor, and Brenda Mattox Burns; a brother, Milton Mattox; grandchildren, Alex Douglas, Victoria Mann Langley, Jessica Douglas, and Catherine Mann; and a great-grandson, Liam Douglas. He was predeceased by brothers, Richard Mattox, Billy Mattox, and Harold Mattox.

The family will receive friends Friday afternoon, June 14, 2019 from 2:00 until 4:00 PM at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home in Newberry. A private committal will take place at a later date.
