George Roberts

d. February 11, 2022

George Edwin Roberts, 75, of Prosperity went to his heavenly home on February 10, 2022, after a long battle with kidney disease. George was born on June 19, 1946 to the late Ulysses George Roberts and Dessie Irene Cowart Roberts.

George graduated from Eau Claire High School class of 1964. He then went to work in 1966 with South Carolina Electric and Gas Company and retired after 35 years of service. George was a member of First Baptist Church of Newberry, past president of the Richland County Game and Fish Association and past member of the Jamil Temple Shriners in the Oriental Band. He was an avid hunter, enjoyed a good round of golf with his wife and friends, and loved to travel, visiting all 50 states. George never met a stranger, and dancing is something he was always up for, but above all he loved to spend time with the loves of his life, his family and Dixie dog.

George is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joyce Arnold Roberts, a son, Chris D. Roberts (Gina), a daughter, Tina R. Griffin (Brad), four grandchildren, J. Hunter Roberts (Teddy), Dr. Erin F. Warren (Blake), Whitney R. Caldwell (Chase), and Haley E. Griffin; a great granddaughter, Oaklee E. Roberts, and a mother-in-law, Elizabeth Arnold. He was predeceased by a son James E. Roberts, a brother, Donald W. Roberts, traveling companions Margie and Mike Goeke, and hunting buddy W.C. (Dub) Roberts.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at First Baptist Church of Newberry by the Reverend Albert Allen. Burial will follow at Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 14, 2022 from 6:00-8:00 PM at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home.

The family would like to say a special thanks to Dr. Oscar Lovelace, Dr. Howard Liflland, Mary Rodriguez, Jennifer Middleton, Barry Richardson, the Pomaria Rescue Squad and MSA Hospice for their support to George and his family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Newberry Relocation Fund, 1020 Boundary Street, Newberry, SC, 29108.
