C. Gilbert Bouknight, 78, of Newberry, died Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at his residence.

Born on August 7, 1931 in Newberry, he was a son of the late Claude Adam and Clara Bell Smith Bouknight. He was retired from AF&F, was a member of the S.C. National Guard Battery C for 15 years and was a member of Newberry Church of God.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Nancy Taylor Bouknight; a son, Wally H. (Lisa) Bouknight of Mauldin; a daughter, Melody (Tim) Walter of Abbeville; a sister, Ella Rae Blake of Belmont, NC; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Bouknight of Newberry; a sister-in-law, Louise Taylor of Newberry; grandchildren, Michael (Becky) Bouknight, Trena (Mike) Hands, Jason (Anna) Maroney; Jeremy Bouknight, Jessica B. Carpenter, McHardy (Rebecca) Way, Jr., Leanne (Michael) Brazell, Justin Bouknight and Nick Bouknight; eight great-grandchildren and special nieces and nephews. Mr. Bouknight was predeceased by a son, Walter L. Bouknight, sisters, Sylvia Putman, Dorothy Martin, Frances Bouknight and Kathleen Bouknight and brothers, Virgil Bouknight, Carroll Bouknight and Ira Bouknight.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, September 12, 2009 at the Newberry Church of God by the Rev. Michael Shirley. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Newberry Church of God, 2695 College Street, Newberry, SC 29108.
