Gloria B. Shealy

Gloria “Jean” B. Shealy, of Pomaria, passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at Newberry Memorial Hospital. She was 83.

Born on August 12, 1941, Gloria was the daughter of the late Alton B. Berley and Dorothy Griffin Berley. She was a proud member of the first graduating class of Mid-Carolina High School. While in high school, she took piano lessons at Newberry College—an experience that shaped her lifelong love of music and service to others.

Gloria shared her talent with her church and community. She served for many years as the choir director at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where she played for worship services, weddings, and funerals. In her later years, she often played for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Fond memories were made around her piano bench.

Gloria also had a love for the outdoors. She was an avid gardener and devoted fisherwoman. She never left home to fish without a picnic packed. Her green thumb was evident when it came time to harvest, proof of her patience, care, and hard work.

Gloria delighted in cooking and hosting family. She spent hours capturing precious moments of her grandchildren on her camcorder. She lit up when her great-grandchildren visited and always had a special treat waiting for them, often a bowl of ice cream. She could often be found on her golf cart under a shady tree, watching her great-grandchildren play outside.

Gloria was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, John Palmer Shealy, Sr. She is survived by her daughter, Angie Bedenbaugh (Gerald); her son, John P. Shealy, Jr. (Phillip); her grandchildren, Julie Clary (Hal) and Garrett Bedenbaugh (Melanie); and her great-grandchildren, Emma and Connor Clary, and Finley, Lillian, and Hudson Bedenbaugh.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 am on Tuesday, May 27th at Bethlehem Lutheran Church by Pastor Art Hallman. The family will receive family and friends following the service.
