Harold Edward “Bo” Swindler, 95, of Newberry, passed away on Monday, December 11, 2023, at White Oak Manor.
Born on August 6, 1928, in Newberry, he was the son of the late Charles James and Ola Cromer Swindler. He was an active member of Lewis Memorial United Methodist Church and served on various church committees and as treasurer for many years.
He was a honor graduate of Newberry High School and a 1949 Magna Cum Laude graduate of Newberry College receiving a Bachelor of Science degree. He began his career as a chemist with Celanese Corporation and held technical, development and supervisory staff positions prior to retiring as a staff engineer in 1987 after 34 years of service.
He was an avid golfer and played until he was 94 years old. He was a long time member of the Country Club of Newberry and the Central and Midland Senior Golf Associations.
Mr. Swindler was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Korean War at Letterman Army Hospital in San Francisco, CA. He was honorably discharged in December 1952.
He is survived by nieces, Janice Kneece, Lynne Fulmer, Patti Dominick, and Roxanne Fulmer; nephews, David Merchant, Charles G. “Chuck” Minick, Clyde D. “Chip” Minick; brother-in-law, Clyde “Buck” Minick and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
Mr. Swindler was predeceased by his siblings, Dorothy S. Merchant, Barbara S. Wessinger, Donnell S. Minick and Joe Bob Swindler.
Funeral services will will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, December 14, 2023, at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Jimmy Counts. Burial with Military honors will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lewis Memorial United Methodists Church, 1105 First Street, Newberry, SC 29108 or Newberry College, 2100 College Street, Newberry, SC 29108.
Active pallbearers will be Chuck Minick, David Merchant, Jerry Kneece, Harold Fulmer, Curtis Dominick and Richard Fulmer.
The family would like to thank the staff of White Oak Manor for their loving care and especially Tina, Tonya and Amber.
