James Lamar Brooks, 53, of Monroe, Louisiana, died May 18, 2009, at his residence.

Born on November 30, 1955 in Biloxi, MS, he was a son of Jewel Creel Brooks and the late Rev. Hershel Brooks. Mr. Brooks was a member of Christian Outreach Ministry in Monroe, LA where he was a musician, and a member of the Circuit Rider Motorcycle Ministry. He was a founding member of the Obadiah Gospel Group.

Surviving are his mother, Jewel Brooks of Newberry; a son, Jason L. (Stephanie) Brooks of Pomaria; sisters, Sharon (Bobby) Bannister of Newberry and Donna (Steve) Morse of Prosperity; a beloved granddaughter, Madison Brooks and nieces, Samantha Aull and Christy Bannister and nephews, Bobby Bannister, Jr. and Brent Bannister.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, May 21, 2009 at McSwain-Evans Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Sanford Jones and Rev. Jimmy Piercy. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.
