James Harry Longshore, 83, died Saturday, June 14, 2025, at White Oak Manor.
Born on August 4, 1941 to James Wilson and Annie Laurie Longshore in Newberry, Harry was known as a kind and friendly man who rarely met a stranger. He was a graduate of Newberry High School. Harry worked at the Market Basket for many years before going to work for the City of Newberry as a meter reader. He was a faithful man and a lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist church where he seldom missed a Sunday. He was often the first one to arrive and served in several capacities. He loved his church and his church family. Harry was a member of the Masonic Amity Lodge and also the Hejaz Shrine Temple. Harry served his community as a member of the Newberry Civitans.
He enjoyed sports, particularly the local teams. He could be found on Friday nights working the chains at the Newberry High School football games and sitting in the stands at Newberry College on Saturdays. He was also an avid Atlanta Braves and Clemson Tiger fan. Harry enjoyed going to breakfast at the Clock on Saturday mornings followed by a weekly trip to Walmart. He spent his weekdays at Mark Hipp’s Garage helping out where he could and socializing with friends.
Harry is survived by his twin brother Larry (Peggy), niece Missy Humphries (Stan), nephew Eric Longshore, step nephew Kevin Sanders (Susan), step niece Charlotte Berry, step nephew Todd Sanders (Lisa) and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and a special four- legged friend Sparky.
Harry is predeceased by his father James Wilson Longshore and his mother Annie Laurie Longshore and a nephew Kyle Longshore.
