James Quinn

James Devin Quinn, 36, of Whitmire, died May 16, 2023 at his home. Born September 8, 1986 in Teaneck, Bergen County, NJ, he was the son of Charles H. Quinn and Diane (Dan) Marchegiano St Clair.

James spent his early years in New Jersey. He loved spending time with his Italian grandparents and helping them in the kitchen learning Italian cooking. As a child, he was always a happy-go-lucky child, who made friends everywhere he went. He loved to play video games with his uncles and playing Magic with his Uncle Guy. As an adult, he was known to have a heart of gold, helping anyone he could – even if it meant going without. In later years he moved to South Carolina. He graduated from Lewisville High School in 2003. He later received a certificate in asbestos abatement and this work eventually brought him to Whitmire on the demolition of the local mill about 2007. A few years later he went into partnership with Johnathan Ammons in J & J Auctions. James started another passion of his on February 10, 2009 when he began his Karate instruction at Dewey Earwood’s Whitmire studio. He continued down this path achieving a 2nd Degree Black Belt. His love of cooking brought him into the restaurant business – opening The Rusty Spoon with Johnathan in 2015. He left the partnership of the auction and the restaurant closed both in 2018. At this time he followed another one of his passions – his love of animals – and began working at Last Chance Animal Rescue (St. Francis Farm) in Carlisle, SC. He worked here until 2019 and then began working as a security guard at the V. C. Summer Nuclear Plant. This was the last lengthy employment he held.

Besides his parents, he is survived by his partner Chris Prince of the home; brothers Charles J. Quinn of Buffalo, SC, Daniel “Danny” Harth (Stephanie) and Samson “Sammy” Harth of Union, SC, Steven Harth of Montrose, PA, and Jesse Quinn of Oswego, NY; a sister Heather Quinn of Chester, SC; aunts and uncles Christopher Marchegiano (Virginia) of Cliffside Park, NJ, Gidano Marchegiano (Mandy) of Clearwater, FL, Nicole Marchegiano (Steven Smith) of Lyndhurst, NJ, George Quinn of Townsend, GA, Timmy of Syracuse, NY, and John of Syracuse, NY, and many special nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Laurale Harth; uncles Steven Quinn, Jimmy Quinn, and Michael Quinn; grandparents Nicholas and Barbara Marchegiano and Charles H. and Mary Elizabeth Quinn.
