James Duane Turner

James Duane “Jimmy” Turner, 78, of Newberry, died Sunday, March 27, 2022 at his residence.

Born on January 21, 1944 in Newberry, he was a son of the late Eugene and Rachel Perry Turner.

Mr. Turner retired from the South Carolina National Guard after 21 years of service. He was a carpenter and former volunteer fire fighter. He loved his family and enjoyed going on camping trips with them. He attended The Old Time Holiness Mission.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Moak Turner; daughters, Mary Ann (David) Westgate of Irmo and Carol (Patrick) VanDyne of Prosperity; a sister-in-law, Linda Turner; grandchildren, Dylan Wesley (Amanda) Turner, Brittany Nicole (Joshua) Pinon, Ashley Marie (Anthony) Dickert, Ronald Cannon Dickert, III, Chasidy Westgate, and Alexis (Blake) Mowder; great-grandchildren, Silas, Mila, and Aryia; and a niece, Jean Turner Amick.

He was predeceased by a brother, Tommy Turner.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday, April 1, 2022 in the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00PM Thursday at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Old Time Holiness Mission, 2004 Colony Church Road, Newberry, SC 29108.
