James John Zybrick, 61, of Prosperity, South Carolina passed away on October 22, 2026 after a short battle with cancer.

Born on March 19, 1965 in Lakewood, New Jersey, James, fondly referred to as Jamie, was a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend. He grew up in Howell, New Jersey.

He was a proud graduate of Christian Brothers Academy in Lincroft, New Jersey and continues to donate a yearly scholarship for students. Working as a machinist for 43 years, he left an impact on several companies and served in many leadership positions in his local United Steelworkers of America Union 770.

A longtime resident of Monroe Township, New Jersey, Jamie and his wife, Deborah, moved to Prosperity, South Carolina in 2016. He was a loyal South Carolina Gamecocks fan, traveled to many Nascar races and loved to fish from the dock at their home on Lake Murray. He was a proud Grateful Dead follower, often telling stories about the hundreds of shows he had attended while singing “What a long strange trip it’s been.”

He was kind, incredibly grounded and willing to offer a helping hand, often without being asked. He had the gift of creating conversations with people from all walks of life and had a laugh that could be heard from across the room.

Jamie was preceded in death by his parents, Barbara and Steve Zybrick. He is survived by his loving wife and daughter, Deborah and Lindsey Bess; Lindsey’s fiancé, Mike; and his sister, Laura. He will also be fondly remembered by his extended family and many dear friends, whose lives were made richer by knowing him.

The family will be hosting a private memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Home Free Animal Rescue (P.O. Box 20, Farmingdale, NJ 07727), the rescue where Jamie’s beloved grand-dog, Ryder, received his second chance, or a charity close to your heart.
