Jana Mount Paschal, 59, of Pomaria, died on Friday, March 17, 2023, at Prisma Health Heart Hospital in Columbia.
Born on May 1, 1963, in Charleston, S.C., she was the oldest child of Jacqueline Crooks Mount and the late Gerald Fred “Jerry” Mount. Jana was a proud 1981 graduate of Mid-Carolina High School, where she played clarinet in the band before joining the colorguard, also serving on the newspaper staff and as a member of the French Club. Going on to earn an Associate in Business degree from Spartanburg Methodist College in 1983, she was employed by Newberry Federal Savings Bank for a number of years before joining the Rushing & Griffith Law Firm as a legal assistant. Since 2010, Jana was employed by the S.C. Vocational Rehabilitation Department, most recently serving as an Administrative Team Support Specialist in the agency’s Newberry office. In 2014, she and husband Jeffery L. Paschal launched J&J Farms, specializing in American Guinea Hogs, baled hay, lumber services, and Jana’s beloved goats.
An avid music lover, Jana was a former member of the Newberry Community Choir. She had a passion for travel and planning family trips, having visited much of the United States, as well as cruises and visits to Mexico and Canada, and she considered any beach her “happy place.” More than anything, she loved spending time with her grandchildren.
In addition to her mother and her husband of 39 years, Jana is survived by son Timothy Paschal of Pomaria and his fiancée Ree Watts; son Steven Paschal of Phoenix, Ariz., and his fiancé Nick Crossley; grandchildren Tyler Paschal, Abby Paschal, Grady Brown, and Aria Watts; sister Jill Longshore; brothers Jimmy (Dedra) Mount and Jonathan (Kathryn) Mount; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held by the Rev. Darlene Kelley at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church, 2360 Mt. Pleasant Road in Pomaria. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 21, 2023 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers will be Brab Crooks, Justin Moates, Jake Longshore, Drew Longshore, Grady Brown, and Tyler Paschal.
