Jean W. Williamson

Jean Wesley Williamson, 79, of Newberry, passed away on Monday, April 10, 2023, at the Lexington Community Hospice House-Agape Care in Lexington.

Born on November 21, 1943, in Newberry, he was the son of the late Adam Wesley and Marjorie Ringer Williamson.  He served in the Air National Guard and retired after 37 years from BellSouth.

Mr. Williamson was a lifelong member of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church of Newberry where he served as a Deacon, Elder,Church Treasurer and was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class.  Jean was a devoted church member who performed many duties anonymously. He never looked for recognition as he gladly served the Lord throughout his life.

Jean served his community as a member of the Newberry Lions Club where he served as the treasurer and volunteered with the delivery of Meals on Wheels.  He also volunteered with the Manna House Food Pantry and regularly visited shut-ins while he was able.

His greatest hobby was working as an avid gardener which he graciously shared with family and friends. He also enjoyed growing and caring for roses, hunting and playing cards with his cousins.

His yearly family beach trips were always a highlight for him.

Those who knew Jean knew that he greatly enjoyed sharing meals with family and friends: scheduled weekly breakfast outings at Bill and Fran’s Restaurant, planned meal outings with the Church 55+ Group and most importantly his trips at the beach for all you can eat snow crab legs.

He is survived by cousins, Robin Ringer Godwin (David) of Andrews, Bob Ringer (Jo) of Columbia, Charlie Ringer (Vicki) of Lexington and Sharon Ringer of Newberry as well as other cousins.  He was predeceased by a close cousin, Lee Ringer.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, April 13, 2023, at the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church of Newberry by the Rev. Seth Yi.  Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery.  The family will be at the home of Sharon Ringer and will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 10:00 – 10:45 am.  Memorials may be made to the ARP Church, 1701 Main Street, Newberry, SC 29108.

Active pallbearers will be Justin Smith, Will Ringer, Jonathan Strauss, Hudson White, Pete Simpson and Marc Faulkenberry.

Honorary pallbearers will be Adam Scott, C.C. Epting, Bud Koon and Larry Bryant.
