Jennie Eargle Frick

Listen to Obituary

Jennie Ruth Eargle Frick, 80, passed away on July 2, 2025, in Florence, SC after a long battle with dementia. She was born in Columbia, SC on August 7, 1944, to Paul and Ellie Ruth (née Shealy) Eargle.

Jennie was a respected teacher who leaves a legacy of education for the Florence, SC community. She taught middle school science at Moore, Sneed and Williams Middle Schools in Florence from 1966 to 2007, with a 12-year break to raise her children. Working closely with Superintendent Larry Jackson, she established the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years program at Williams and designed the science wing of that school when it underwent a significant rebuild. Jennie graduated from Winthrop University in 1965, then earned her Master's degree in Science Education from Francis Marion University in 1988.

Jennie and husband Earl grew up together in Chapin, SC and were high school sweethearts. While Jennie attended Winthrop University, Earl attended Clemson University, but he put high mileage on his Chevrolet driving for frequent visits during their college years. They were married on August 1, 1965, at Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church in Peak, SC waiting until after both had graduated college at the insistence of Jennie's parents.

Jennie and Earl are long time members of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Florence and enjoyed the many strong friendships they developed over their nearly 60 years there. The family is deeply appreciative of the support they received from church members as well as friends from their local neighborhood.

Jennie leaves behind her devoted husband of 60 years, J. Earl Frick, Jr., children Jennifer Frick-Ruppert (Edward), Julie Frick Wade (Bryan), and Allen Frick (Cami Schupp), grandchildren Fritz Ruppert, Devdan Wade, Rachael Wade, and sisters Alice Teal (Bart) and Paula Eargle. The family also wants to recognize her devoted caregivers who became family to them: Shirley Barr, Tonya Randolf, Wanda Gore, Monica Martin, Martha Bell, Amanda Antunes, Alma Nelson, Doris Robinson, Ronnie Brothers and Brooke Creel.

A visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 5, 2025, followed by a funeral ceremony at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Florence directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. A graveside service and interment will take place at 3:00 p.m. in Peak Cemetery in Peak, SC. Memorials may be made to St. Luke Lutheran Church, 1201 Cherokee Road, Florence, SC 29501.
