Listen to Obituary

Jerome Fagan (Jerry) Havird, Jr., 79, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, February 20, 2026. Born on June 3, 1946 in Silverstreet, South Carolina, he was the beloved son of the late Jerome F. and Marguerite Huckaby Havird, who predeceased him.

Jerry, know for years as “The Man with the Plan” and “Big ‘un”, was selfemployed for most of his life, embodying an independent spirit and an unmatched work ethic. He started his career has owner of Havird Brothers store in Silverstreet with his dad and uncles. Though the majority of his career was spent in longhaul trucking, a profession he loved for the freedom of the open road, the opportunity to spread the love of Jesus, and the satisfaction of providing for his family. Over the years, he logged countless miles and created lifelong friendships within the trucking community.

A devoted husband, he is survived by his wife, Janice Bradley Havird, and his two daughters, Karen (Charles) Smith and Brandy (Johnnie) Wix, grandchildren Cherokee (Dustin) Dorroh, Andrew (Megan) Smith, Alexandra (Tara) Kelley, Kamden Wix, Karsen Wix, and Griffin Wix and four great-grandchildren. His family was his anchor, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

He was an avid fan of sports, especially NASCAR, South Carolina Gamecocks, and NHRA.

Known for his steady nature, his sense of humor, and his willingness to help anyone who needed a hand, he touched the lives of many. His legacy lives on in the values he instilled, the stories he shared, and the deep love he held for his family.

Jerry was a lifelong member of Silverstreet Lutheran Church, member of Mens Sunday School Class, Choir Member, Lutheran Men, Charter Member of Newberry Community Choir, a Shriner, member of Masonic Lodge #87 AFM and a member of the Silverstreet Volunteer Fire Department.

He will be profoundly missed and forever remembered by those who knew and loved him.

A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at 2:00 pm at Silverstreet Lutheran Church by the Vicar Bob Dernbach. Visitation will follow the service in the fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Silverstreet Lutheran Church, 120 Long Street, Silverstreet, SC 29145 or Silverstreet Volunteer Fire Department, c/o Ned Kesler, 4205 Highway 34/121, Newberry, SC 29108.
