Jerry Davenport

Gerald W. “Jerry” Davenport, 77, of Newberry, died Thursday, February 13, 2020 at J.F. Hawkins Health Care.

Born on March 27, 1942 in Newberry, he was a son of the late Henley Louis and Ester Minnie Hendrix Davenport. He retired from the Newberry Observer and was a member of the Newberry Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church. He was a 1960 graduate of Newberry High School. Jerry loved golf and was a member of the Wednesday afternoon “What Did He Say” Club.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy Holsenback Davenport; sons, David Davenport and Bryan (Kerry) Davenport; daughters, Brenda Guy, Paige Guy, and Chrystal Crumpton; a brother, Nick Davenport; 8 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Sunday afternoon, February 16, 2020 from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be sent to McSwain-Evans Funeral Home , 1724 Main Street, Newberry, SC 29108 to help with expenses.
