Jesse Johnston, Jr.

Jesse Eugene Johnston, Jr., 85, formerly of Spartanburg, SC, died on Monday, June 17, 2024, at Legacy Village Assisted Living in Athens, GA.

Born on October 5, 1938, in Newberry, SC, he was the son of the late Jesse Eugene Johnston, Sr. and Nettie Elizabeth Johnston. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Mr. Johnston was a graduate of Presbyterian College and the Institute of Textile Technology. He retired from Milliken after more than 45 years with the company.

Mr. Johnston always remained a supporter of his alma mater, Presbyterian College. He loved working on his family farm in Newberry, watching Sunday NASCAR races and doting on his beloved fur baby, Ginger.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marian Surratt Johnston; a son, David Eugene (Carol) Johnston of Athens, GA; a daughter, Marian Elizabeth Johnston of Spartanburg; a grandson, Matthew (Allison) Ruff; and great-granddaughter, Sydney Ruff.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, June 21, 2024, at Bush River Baptist Church Cemetery in Newberry. The family will receive friends following the service.
