Jimmie Ray Harmon, 79, of Newberry, passed away on Friday, August 9, 2024 at Prisma Health Richland Hospital.
He was born on February 5, 1945 to the late James Cecil and Ruthie Grogan Harmon. Mr. Harmon worked as a supervisor at Torrington for 50 years. He was a member of Glenn Street Baptist Church, where he served faithfully as a Deacon, a Sunday School teacher, and a member of the church choir. He was also a member of Amity Lodge 87 in Newberry. Mr. Harmon loved to tinker and fix things. He was also skilled at sewing, and even made his own bow ties. He loved his family dearly and enjoyed spending as much time with them as possible.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sheila Farmer Harmon; sons, James Gregg (Johnette) Harmon of Newberry, Kevin Ray (Stacey) Harmon of Chapin, and Jody Douglas (Kendra) Harmon of Rutherfordton, NC; grandchildren, Laura Harmon, James Gregg Harmon, Jr., Kimberly Coats, Christy Coats, Alexis Harmon, Jonah Harmon, Jacob Harmon, Neeleigh Harmon, Declan Harmon, and Stetson Harmon; great-grandchildren, Dominic, Dylan, Logan, Colin, Khloe, and Reyna; and a special friend who is like a daughter, Jennifer Longshore.
He was predeceased by his daughters, Angela Coats and Crystal Harmon; sister, Vera Mae Harmon; and brothers, Cecil Harmon and Wayne Harmon.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Monday, August 12, 2024 at Glenn Street Baptist Church by the Reverend Keith Stott. Burial with Masonic rights will follow at Newberry Memorial Gardens. The family will be receiving friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
Active pallbearers will be Gregg Harmon, Kevin Harmon, Jody Harmon, James Harmon, Jr., Will Fulmer, and Bradley Kinard.
