Joan B. Bishop’s walk on earth ended on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 when she went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and her beloved husband James Robert.

Joan was born on May 4, 1934 in Joanna, SC to the late Hozie and Ona Lever Bridges.

Joan worked in the Newberry County School District throughout her career, working at the old Bush River school then later working at Speers Street School. Joan developed many lasting friends during her time with the school district. After retirement, her greatest joy was baby sitting her great grandson, Cade.

Joan is survived by her son, Stanley Bishop (Midge) of Newberry; a brother, Steve Bridges (Ruth) of Tennessee; three grandchildren, Tegan Bishop of Pomaria, SC; Brandon Bishop of Chicago, IL; Tyler Bishop of Hilton Head, SC; one great-grandchild, Caden Coward of Pomaria, SC. In addition, Joan is survived by brothers and sisters in-law; CJ and Joyce Bishop and Jim and Mary Braswell as well as many nieces and nephews whom she loved.

Joan is preceded in death by her husband, James Robert Bishop and her parents, Ona and Hozie Bridges.

The family extends a special thank you to the staff of Springfield Place and JF Hawkins Nursing Homes for their love, dedication, and care of Joan as well as all their residents, especially in the midst of the pandemic. Each of you are truly heroes!

Graveside Services will be held at St. James Lutheran Church Cemetery on Saturday February 27th, 2021 at 3:00 pm by the Rev. Rodney Gunter.

No formal visitation will be held; however, friends may stop by the funeral home Friday between 9:00 am -5:00 pm to view and sign the guest register, and the family will also receive friends after the service at the graveside.
