John Rudolph “J.R.” Lindler, Sr., 85, of Chapin, widower of Shirley Jean Rentz Lindler, died on Monday, June 15, 2026, at his home.

Born on January 27, 1941, in Chapin, he was the son of the late Ernest Rudolph and Ruth Amick Lindler. J.R. was retired from Georgia Pacific as a master mechanic. He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and was involved with the Golden Agers and the Primetimers. He was a member of the Little Mountain Masonic Lodge # 281.

J.R. knew the season’s – he was a coon and deer hunter, fisherman and gardener. He was an avid outdoorsman. He also enjoyed NASCAR.

He is survived by a son, Johnny (Stephanie) Lindler of Chapin; daughters, Lisa (Buck) Cumalander and Ann (Dan) Pitts both of Little Mountain; sisters, Christine Dowd of Pomaria, Jenny (Horace) Freeman and Kathy (Ronnie) Glymph both of Chapin, grandchildren, Troy Frick, Brooke Lindler and Nicole Lindler, special friend, Mary Epting and sisters-in-law, Nancy Kinsey and Frances (Terry) both of Valdosta, GA.

He was predeceased by sisters, Rebecca “Beck” Long, Margie Monts, Veita Rae Farr and Shirley Emanuel.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, June 20, 2026, at St. Peter Lutheran Church by the Rev. Chris Meetze. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 10:00 am.

Memorials may be made to St. Peter Lutheran Church, 900 Dreher Island Road, Chapin, SC 29036.

Active pallbearers will be Bud Dowd, Jesse Farr, Daniel Morris, Ryan Etheridge, Rodney Glymph and Ernie Freeman.

Honorary pallbearers will be Peggy and Fred Chason, Elaine and Ken Hilton, Dr. Carroll Pinner III, Olive and Paul Etheridge and family, Joette and Milton Kittrell and family.
